Downtown St. Louis hot spot Ballpark Village is about to get even bigger. Phase two of the popular project recently broke ground; this $260 million expansion includes an additional 700,000 square feet of mixed-use space and is bringing with it 2,500 new jobs.
The expansion, driven by the St. Louis Cardinals and The Cordish Companies, is more than seven times larger than the initial phase of Ballpark Village, says St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III in a press release. “By developing new housing, Class A office space, an upscale hotel, and high quality street level retail, we are truly putting the ‘Village’ into Ballpark Village.”
The Ballpark Village expansion includes a full build-out on Clark Street, as well as the creation of a new street: Cardinal Way. A 29-story luxury residential building—appropriately named One Cardinal Way—will be created on the east end of the street. This apartment building will include luxury features such as an infinity-edge pool, on-site dry cleaning and an expansive terrace with views into Busch Stadium. An office building and convention hotel will be developed on the west end. Additionally, a glass retail pavilion including a Onelife Fitness health club will be added to the area.
“This is a tremendous project that will bring hundreds of new residents and over a thousand new jobs to our city,” says Mayor Lyda Krewson in a press release. “I am excited to see a world-class hometown company like the Cardinals and their development partners, The Cordish Companies, expanding their investment in St. Louis and bringing the first new, Class-A office building downtown in nearly three decades.”
The Ballpark Village phase two expansion is planned to open in 2019, with completion in 2020.
